  • Director

Ms. April’s journey in Waldorf education began in 2015 when she sought a warm and nurturing preschool for her first child. Her involvement at Circle of Friends Waldorf Preschool and Kindergarten in Bend blossomed into a teaching role in 2020, where she embraced the opportunity to lead the toddler class. After completing 40 hours of Waldorf early education training and attending the WECAN conference, Ms. April became a dedicated advocate for Waldorf Education, currently studying Steiner’s teachings at Micha-el Institute in Portland.

She observed that children in public schools often struggled with fundamental skills like empathy, curiosity, community building, tenacity, and grit, while those in Waldorf early childhood programs demonstrated and practiced these qualities every day. It was at that moment she recognized her true calling in Waldorf Early Childhood Education.

With seven years of experience in public and private schools, Ms. April specializes in creating hands-on learning experiences in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science. Before launching Soul Blossom, she also served as the Water Education Lead at the Environmental Center, engaging K-7 students in the wonders of nature, and provided support during long-term teacher leaves at the Waldorf School of Bend.

Having split her childhood between Nelson, New Zealand, and Bend, Oregon, Ms. April cherishes the vibrant connections to nature and community. Inspired by her mother’s passion for quilting and naturalism, she has dear memories of the Sisters Quilting Festival, admiring the artistry that echoed the beauty of Central Oregon’s wild landscapes.

After graduating high school in New Zealand, Ms. April traveled extensively across the South Pacific. She earned her BS in Fisheries and Wildlife from OSU in 2008 and spent five years as a Field Biologist, exploring the great outdoors before settling down to start a family with her husband James. Transitioning to teaching felt like a natural evolution, and she completed her MAT from the University of Portland in 2016 before returning to Central Oregon. Today, she delights in raising her two adventurous, clever, and bilingual boys, Silas and Asher, as she and James nurture their curiosity and love for learning every step of the way.
